Çankırı Karatekin University Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Department of History faculty member Dr. Ali Çapar made a paper presentation at the annual conference of ACLA - American Comparative Literature Association, one of the world`s leading international academic events in the fields of literature, culture, history and translation.
Dr. Çapar, in his paper titled "Children`s Periodicals and Ideological Control in the Ottoman Empire: Publishing, Circulation, and Censorship in the Late 19th and Early 20th Centuries", Dr. Çapar analyzed the children`s periodicals published in the Ottoman Empire between 1876 and 1914 within a historical and ideological framework. In his study, he comprehensively demonstrated how these publications were not only pedagogical and entertaining, but also used as ideological apparatuses of the state.
Founded in 1960, ACLA (American Comparative Literature Association) is an internationally respected academic organization that brings together scholars working in the fields of comparative literature, culture, history, translation and similar fields, and pioneers interdisciplinary studies.
